Mangaluru : Patrick Francis Daniel Farmer, a former Australian Member of Parliament, reached Mangalore city after covering 4,600kms in an ultra marathon across the country on Thursday.
Interacting with presspersons during a stopover of his ‘Spirit of India Marathon’ Mr. Farmer said, “India has many different languages, religions, gods and yet you seem to be co exist and can become a world leader. You are very close to be the number one economy in the world. Of course everybody is aware you will be. For that reason, it is very important to the world to understand that what India stands for and India works under a system of tolerance and humanity. We are showcasing these through my film, television and radio interviews. There is wider interest around the world than in India about this run.”
Creating awareness on education of female children is one of the three main objectives for which Farmer has undertaken this marathon, the other two being – to inspire people and to improve relationships between India and Australia.
Farmer started the marathon at Kanyakumari on January 26- the day which is celebrated as Indian Republic Day and the Australian National Day. The countrywide marathon is sponsored by Incredible India, a wing of the Indian Tourism Department. Farmer is scheduled to end his stint on March 30 in Kashmir.
