Mangaluru : Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said sports injury centre will come up shortly at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics (SGITO) in Bengaluru.
Speaking after inspecting the ongoing preparations for the 19th Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championship 2015, along with Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) President and State Congress President G Parameshwara, at Mangala Stadium, in Mangaluru, on Wednesday, he said the centre will be the first of its kind in the State and second in the country.

About 95 per cent of preparations have been complete. The work on marking the track is being carried out along with fixing equipment for the championship.The KAA website has been relaunched and will provide updates on the event.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was supposed to inaugurate the event on Thursday evening, is unlikely to attend as an all party delegation will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to press for the implementation of Mekedatu project.
AFI Secretary General Valson said the synthetic track at Mangala Stadium is certified by International Athletics Federation. There is no problem with the track. But the warm up area has no synthetic track. It is a track made of clay. If it rains, then the problem may arise. Hence, arrangements have been made for the athletes to warm up at Mangala indoor stadium.
“We do not want to compromise on the performance of the athletes.” A total of seven NADA officials will arrive Mangaluru. The NADA officials will likely go for checking of all the record holders and also will check the athletes randomly.
