Mangalore : A new progressive Central Committee for Mangalore Taluk rural development under the auspices of Shree Dharmasthala Kshetra project in Mangalore, was installed at a Town Hall ceremony under the presidentship of Dr D. Veerendra Heggade on Saturday (July 31) at 11am. Shankar Shetty is the new President of this Committee. About 4000.
Self- Help groups participated in a Bonus distribution programme at the same time.
Dr. Heggade inaugurated the meet and his wife Hemavathi planted a coconut Palm flower bunch to start the programme.
Lighting the traditional lamp, Dr. Veerendra Heggade in his speech called for joining self help groups to take advantage of banks and govt agencies which are waiting to help common people. He wanted work to be given more importance than promises by words. Specific motives and aims in a project takes us to a successful end and a steady mind helps solve problems confronting a progressive path, said Dr. Veerendra Heggade. Only when loans taken are properly utilised that the bonus (part of net profits) reaches everybody like nectar, bringing happiness, he pointed out.
Mother Hemavathi Heggade addressing the gathering, stressed on the importance of one’s own efforts to make headway. A small scale govt is at work here without making noise. Everybody works hard and when they participate in rural level work, and the office bearers look at the society as a whole in this effort, the rural scene changes for the better, whatever may happen in the country elsewhere. Your interest in the rural matters of development only can bring in progress, she advised the self help groups.
City MLA Yogish Bhat one of the chief guests felt happy that Mangalore taluk led the 45 taluks in a union, on path of progress.
Mayor Rajni Dugganna attributed the success of Mangalore Taluk to the blessings of the Dharmasthala deities, and asked the women in self help groups to continue their autonomy as they enabled her to come to this function and address the members of 4000 self help groups.
Ullal MLA U.T. Khader was emphatic, that if only politicians of the state emulated Dr. Veerendra Heggade in their business, they could make considerable progress.
City MLA Yogish Bhat installed the new office bearers of the Pragathi Bandhu Central Committee by offering fruits and betel leaves as presents.
Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, Achutha Achar (former chief of Mangalore rural central Committee), Udaya Kumar Shetty (trustee of the rural projects), Sukhalatha Shetty (City Central Committee former chief), and Shankar Shetty (Mangalore Taluk Central Committee Chairman) were present on the occasion.
