Mangalore: Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the eminent Bharat Ratna engineer of Mysore, who lived for 100 years, Came back in spirit to Mangalore, to live on a stretch of road, from Karnatak Poly Technic at Kadri Hills to Maravoor, named after him in great reverence by Coastal people who knew about his marvels in engineering.
The road leading to MIA(Kenjaru) airport from KPT to Maravoor, in magnificent conditions, reminded one and all of his skills. In a special ceremony organised by MCC(Mangalore City Corporation) DK minister Krishna Palemar named the road afresh, while inaugurating the programme.
The road named after Sir M. Visvesvaraya, is concretised at a cost of Rs 29.32 crore, to which MCC contributed Rs 4.57 crore from its funds, State Finance Commission(SFC) gave Rs12.50 crore in 2008-09, and Union Government(Under a Scheme)paid Rs.12.25 crore. The scheme related to the development of Export Infrastructure and allied activities.
Palemar informed that the Road will soon have storm water drains and footpaths to be laid by Nirmiti Kendra. He referred to the Bus stand at Pumpwell to say that work begins this week, to be completed by MCC in 6 months.
