Mangalore: The Canara Pre-University College in Mangalore was in the midst of a controversy on December 17, Monday when the College Principal denied entry to an Ayyappa Vrithadhari student unless he trimmed his hair and shaved his beard.
Rakshith Rao, a I PUC student was the Ayyappa Vrithadhari who was also reportedly asked by the Principal to tie his black shawl to his waist instead of hanging around his neck. It is said the principal did not heed even when he told her that he cannot trim his hair and shave his beard until the vritha was complete. When the Sri Rama Sene members got hint of this, they arrived at the college campus and sat on a dharna after their talks with the principal proved futile.
The Principal Hundi Prabha Kamath, clarifiying said rules are the same for all the students irrespective of their caste and community and every student will have to adhere to the same.
