Mangalore : Magnum Intergrafiks in association with Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association and the Sri Lankan Cricket team will play a T20 Cricket match NMPT Grounds, Cricket Stadium in Mangalore on November 19. This will be a benefit match for former Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Chaminda Vaas titled ‘Chaminda Vaas Benefit T20 Cricket Cup 2011’
He was speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl on October 29, Saturday. Speaking about the objectives of the match, Sudhir P Ghate, chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks said that the match is being played to promote cricket in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, to provide an opportunity to local cricketers to play against an international team, to give Mangaloreans an international cricketing experience and to create to festive atmosphere in the city with the IPL format.
Former Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Chaminda Vaas said that Mangalore is one of the best cities I have seen and hope to encourage the youngsters of Mangalore towards the game of cricket.
Cricket is in my blood and being a cricketer for so many years is the best moment of the life, he said. I just want to enjoy myself playing cricket. I have played well in the last two years. Being the fast bowler I had to sacrifice many things in life. It is not easy task and must maintain the health fitness and further too will maintain it. I have signed for England count cricket for 6 months and sure to train and produce one of the fast bowlers after working as coach for the youngsters.
Speaking on the cricket with Indian Cricketers, Vaas said that the cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, Dhoni and Rohit Sharma will make a good strong team. The only one cricketer who scared a lot in the game was Sachin Tendulkar.
He said that there are many fast bowlers in Srilankan team, but place them in right way in right place is important.
Speaking on the playing format Srikanth Rai, president of DK Cricket Association said that it will be a one day Twenty – Twenty match beginning at 2.30 pm and ending at 6 pm. The match will be played at IPL Format between the Srilankan Team and Team Mangalore. The match is being played with the concurrence of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
