Mangalore : Department of political science of St. Agnes College organized a one-day seminar titled “Sixty Years of Karnataka Legislative Assembly” at College auditorium on July 7, Saturday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, D. H. Shankarmurthy, chairman of the Karnataka state legislative council, said that since the development projects have been discussed in parliament and legislative assemblies, the country has seen the development very soon.
MLA U. T. Khader appreciated the college and the department for hosting the seminar in commemoration of the 60th year of the state legislative assembly, which is not celebrated by any other institution.
Deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly N Yogish Bhat, presided over the valedictory ceremony and Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, delivered the valedictory speech.
The college also honoured women politicians former MLA of Puttur Shakunthala Shetty, and former MLA of Puttur Mallika Prasad, for their political achievements.
In the first session, MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary spoke on “Vidhana Sabha – Temple of Democracy” and second session was presented by V. R. Sudarshan, who spoke on “Outstanding Parliamentarians of Karnataka Vidhana Sabha.” In the third session, a panel discussion was held on the topic “People’s Expectations of Vidhana Sabha”.
