Mangalore : The Cultural Association of St Agnes College to host a UGC and Department of Kannada and Culture sponsored a 5 day National Level Workshop on ‘Folk Dances of Manipur’ from January 12 to January 16.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Dec 29, Thursday Prof Shubharekha, staff co-ordinator said that the main aim of the workshop is to be imbibe love and interest in the Indian Culture and folklore among the students from various colleges of our country.
She also said that about 100 delegates from various colleges of our country are expected to take part and benefit from this workshop. Internationally renowned artistes Padmanabha Dr Darshana Jhavery and group from Mumbai and Ms Latasana Devi and Ms Gyaneshwari Devi from Manipur will expose the students to various forms of Manipuri folk and tribal dances.
Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate the workshop at 2.30 pm on January 12, Thursday. Honourable minister for Kannada and Culture Govinda Karajola, district in charge minister Krishna J Palemar and Kuchipudi exponent Vyjayanthi Kashi will be the guest of honour.
Dr A V Navuda, retd professor of Hampi University will be the chief guest for the valedictory function on January 16 at 3.30 pm.
Dr Sr Prem D’Souza, principal, Shashwathi Jain, student secretary, Shruthi and Chaitra were present.
