Mangaluru: Swachhata Ranking Awards 2018, which is given to Universities, Institutes, and Colleges for their dedicated efforts for Swachhta Abhiyan, were conferred upon 51 higher educational institutions in 8 different categories.
St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, was ranked third among ’India’s best maintained campuses’ under the Swacch campus scheme of Government of India. The ranking was announced by Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Prakash Javdekar, on October 1 in New Delhi, and certificates were distributed.
A total of 6,029 institutions had applied out of which 205 of them were shortlisted based on cut-off. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) inspected all 205 institutions and selected 51 of them in 8 categories.
The parameters included cleanliness on campus, green initiatives, environmental protection measures, sufficient toilets (and their maintenance), canteen maintenance, hostels, clean drinking water, green audit, energy conservation, waste management system and waste recycling.
