Mangaluru: Newly elected Mayor Kavitha Sanil’s first general session of the Mangaluru City Corporation witnessed chaos as one of the members staged a dharna on Thursday.

Nagaveni, Chairperson of the standing Committee on Health, Education and Social Justice was angry that she was not invited for a programme organized by the MCC on Friday.

Nagaveni accused the Mayor of autocratic behavior and said that her permission was not sought for holding the programme on Friday. Meanwhile, the opposition also came forth in her support.

However, Kavitha Sanil said that the programme had been fixed when the previous Chairperson of the committee was in-charge and that it had been postponed as District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai was ill.

Though the Mayor gave the above reason, sources say that the invite for Friday’s programme mentions Nagaveni as a chief guest.
