Mangalore: The 8th state convention of the Karnataka State Beedi Workers’ Federation held at Town Hall Mnagalore on May 8, Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering Muhammad Nizamuddin, Chief Sectretary, All India Beedi Workers’ Federation said that the workers groups in India must take out a similar protest the Wall Street protests that shook America.
Mr. Nizamuddin said that, in many countries the workers have been carrying out agitations against injustice and those in India too must step up and fight. in 2009, a national conference of workers started at Delhi which included joint movement, jail bharo and other movement to fight for justice.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Beedi workers are jointly fighting for the demands, during which 350 comrades have been killed and after the assembly, 64 other comrades and MLA’s were also killed.
He said that in the year 2011, beedi industry made 2 lakh members. On May 11, they will also organize All India Beedi Workers Federation meeting at Kanyakumari, he added.
The Beedi workers movement is the second powerful movement in the country, he said.
Comrade Neela K, vice president of Janavadhi Womens Union was the chief guest. Comrade B Madhava, president of Karnataka State Beedi Workers Federation (CITU) presided over the event.
