Bangalore: The Karnataka State Cabinet has decided to withdraw all cases of 2008, relating to 338 Christian youths involved in, or against various Church attacks filed by the state, for which several Bishops and Christian Associations leaders toiled, when the Government was led by Yeddyurappa for 3 years and now by DVS Gowda for 3 months.
The laity and clergy of Roman Catholic Community were involved in these cases in Mangalore and Udupi in 2008, in the aftermath of assault on their churches in several places by Hindu Militant groups.
The cabinet appeared on Thursday, Dec 1, topped all the decisions informally made earlier b y BJP rulers, investing the decision with authority.
The withdrawal of cases came as a big relief to the burdened hearts of several Christian youths, their parents and religious presents of RC church.
Law minister Suresh Kumar announced the cabinet decision to the Press Yesterday.
The day was on occasion of content to Ronald Colaco, Chairman of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations, on NRI and the members of it who toiled for the withdrawal of cases.
The 338 youths were involved in retaliatory action (processions, protests and speeches etc.,) following Hindu Sena attacks on places of Christian worship, against conversion and beef-eating incidents.
The taken 3 years, during which bishops and leaders of local Christians kept up the pressure on BJP rulers.
So, the load is off on BJP minds of MLAs from coastal districts, as well. The files on all such cases went through DGP office, to reach the cabinet on Thursday.
Clashes between the state police and reactionary Christian youths originated all the 338 cases, which dealt blows on Christian minority community here. The B.K.Somashekhar commission in a report had given a clean chit to BJP government in the criminal affairs.
