Bangalore: The year 2010-11 in Kannada filmdom at last belonged to Puneet Rajkumar, the third son of a Veteran Kannada hero, on Thursday when he was declared best actor in ‘Prithvi’.
Kalyani, a little known heroine, won the best actress award for ‘Suicide’. It is not clear whether there were any re-makes in the awarded category of films, and whether a non-Kannada person secured any award. These awards are backed by heavy cash and gold.
Kannada film ‘Super’, directed by writer-actor Upendra who also handles other departments, and produced by Rock line(Venkatesh) Productions in Nagasandra studios of his own, won the first prize of Rs.1 lakh each, a gold medal of 50 grams, and a plaque.
‘Nanna Gopala’ was selected in the Children’s film category as the best film, getting Rs50,000, with a gold medal of 50 grams and plaque.
A 10-member committee headed by actress Bharathi V., watched 52 films for 40 days in Feb-March to pick up 29 awardees in various fields.
CM DV Sadananda Gowda announced the results at his home office in the presence of Kannada & Culture minister Govind Karajola on Aril 5, during a press meet. While Baraguru Ramachandrappa emerged as best dialogues writer, Gurukiran was declared best Music director for Mayuri. ‘Puttakkana highway’ won the best screenplay award for B. Suresh. Journalist Agni Sridhar secured the best story writer award for ‘Thamassu’(darkness). Lifetime awards were presented to comedian Shivaram and hero Ambareesh for services to industry in many ways.
