Bellary: A rake containing 57 carriages filled with iron ore was seized at Yeshwanthpur railway station in Sandur in a drive against illegal mining.
The Supreme Court had come down heavily on illegal mining under the nose of Karnataka govt., on a large scale, which asked an empowered Committee (CEC) to probe and report. CEC named a few officials colluding with illegal miners, as noted by Supreme Court.
About 3,840 MT of iron ore were seized in Sandur by forest guards. The ore was getting transferred transported without valid papers. The consignment was booked by an Andhra party, as Kaveri Iron and Steel Plant. The value of illegal ore was Rs.6 crores, under transit.
