Mangaluru: Karnataka state government should declare Sulia, Puttur and Belthangady taluks as drought hit taluks of the district to support the farmers residing in the region as they have been facing various issues like water shortage due to significant decline in rainfall activities this season, said KPCC Kisan Unit president Sachin Miga in a press conference held at Mangaluru city on Wednesday.
Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks have already been declared as drought hit taluks by the state state government. However, the two taluks have less farming area when compared to Puttur, Sulia and Belthangady taluks of Dakshina Kannada district, he said. He warned the banks not to recover debts from farmers forcefully as there is severe water shortage and issues of demonetisation in the state.
