Mangalore : The Joint action committee of Sand Contractors, Sand Boat Owner- Workers and Building Material Transporters president Mayur Ullal urged the state government to provide concession for the Sand transportation in Coastal region including Dakshina Kannada district.
The also opposed the state government’s rule of giving the powers to the Public Works Department to auction sand mining. The Government had decided to constitute a committee to look into issues of environment before finalizing the policy.
Mayur Ullal, also said that the auction format from PWD must be banned, since, the joint action committee have registered for the GPS for 596 lorries and around 486 lorries have already implemented with GPS and will complete every registered lorry with installation of GPS and the system has started.
The joint action committee has welcomed the High Court’s order WP 22979: 10 dated 9-11-2010 of installing GPS in every sand carrying transport. He also recalled the courts order to avoid taking sand with the machines so not to harm the environment and the creatures, he said.
When these orders of high court have been followed, the new rule and proposal of state government is condemned by the members of the committee, since it has made a big mistake by cheating the over 10,000 families who learn their living in this business.
The committee has also submitted a memorandum to the district in charge minister Krishna J Palemar urging to give concession for the people of the coastal region and he has also assured to render support to the fullest.
If the decision is not out before December 13, 2010, even after submitting the memorandum to the MP’s, MLA’s and other minister of three districts, then the joint action committee will hold the violent protest in front of DC Office on December 14, 2010, he added.
