Mangalore : Former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty said that Mangalore City is facing water problem from March 18 and District Administration, state government and Mangalore City Corporation is responsible for this problem.
He was speaking at the press meet held District Congress Office on April 24, Tuesday. He also said that the negligence of State Government and irresponsibility of Administrative committee of MCC has made the people of city to suffer from water problem.
He also said that the state government has given the permission for several power projects by constructing permanent dam and store water to produce electricity at rivers like Kumaradhara and Nethravathi and made crores of profit.
The proposed projects of state government are Western Hydro Energy Private Limited at Sakleshpur, International Power Corporation Limited at Marnahalli, Nagarjuna Hydro Energy Private Limited at Gundya, Disha Power Project at Kadaba, Barooka Power Private Limited at Nidle, Barooka Power Private Limited, Sagar Power Private Limited and AMR and Hrithvik Power Private Limited are in main.
He said that this year the inner flow of water from two rivers are less, hence the district administration should have ordered the projects to stop power production from the month of January. They must have also stopped the water storage in the power project dam and should have taken care to allow water store in the Thumbe Dam.
The district administration for the financial profit have given the opportunity to produce the electricity till February 16 and made the Thumbe water to decrease and created problem to the public.
He also said that on March 10, the Dam gate at Sarapady belonging to MRPL was closed making inner flowing completely stopped making Thumbe water level to decrease.
