Mangaluru: Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja has called upon the state govt to designate an administrative officer for the Dakshina Kannada District Amateur Kabaddi Association. Despite an investigation officer submitting a report to the registrar of cooperative societies in 2023, suggesting this appointment, following misappropriation complaints, the position remains unfilled, the MLA told reporters here on Friday.
“The file related to the report is before the cooperation minister. I raised the issue during the recently concluded legislature session in Belagavi. The minister promised to look into the issue,” the MLA said.
He emphasised the need for state govt support to strengthen kabaddi players, particularly those from Dakshina Kannada. He noted that despite local talent and Mangalore University’s gold medal victory at the inter-university level, players have not secured positions in state and national teams.
The MLA mentioned his contribution of two kabaddi mats through MLA Area Development (MLAAD) scheme to the taluk amateur Kabaddi Association. “I also ensured that 12 acres is reserved for a taluk stadium in Belthangady. The previous BJP govt sanctioned Rs 9 crore for the stadium. However, the Congress govt stalled the sanction.
