Udupi : State Home Minister KJ George who visited Udupi in the wake of the gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University recently, met the victim student in the hospital and interacted with her family members. He also assured all co-operation and full support to them on behalf of the government.
Later speaking to reporters, the Home Minister said the police department would leave no stone unturned in tracking down the culprits in the case. A transparent probe will be undertaken, he assured. Strongly condemning the incident, the Home Minister said the police department has been given a free hand to probe the case.
He said all out measures would be taken to check the rising cases of crime and also to ensure protection to students in educational campuses. The Minister also pointed out that some institutions were showing disinterest in installing CC Cameras and taking other security related measures.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr Boralingaiah who also spoke on the occasion, said three of the eight teams formed are on a checking of autorickshaws of the town to track down the auto in which the student was kidnapped. He said autorickshaw drivers have also been requested to fully co-operate with the probe.
IGP Pratap Reddy, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, district in-charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake and ADGP (crime and law) Vipin Gopalkrishna were also present at the press meet.
