Udupi: State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice SR Nayak who accepted complaints from public at Rajathadri in Udupi on June 11, Monday, has informed that the Commission has settled a total of 22,012 cases out of the 33,064 cases registered by it from 2007 to 2012 March. Of these 6,065 cases were registered voluntarily by the Commission on the basis of media reports.
As far as Udupi is concerned, of the 579 cases registered, 363 have been settled. In Udupi 1588 complaints have been registered and 952 of them settled, he informed.
The SHRC Chairman received several complaints regarding the inconveniences caused to the public due to the UPCL thermal plant at Padubidri. Even the issue of the road accidents taking place due to the greasy water that get sprinkled on road from the fish lorries, was brought to his attention. Some even complained that the public suffered a lot due to the unavailability of proper conveyance system to the district administration complex at Manipal.
Moreover it was also glaring that the distinct administration had failed to make necessary arrangements for the meet ing of SHR C Chairman.
