Mangalore: State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice SR Nayak who is scheduled to retire on July 25, has said that during his five year term 36,000 cases were registered in the Commission, out of which, more than 6,500 complaints were registered by the Commission voluntarily based on media reports.
He said a total of 24000 complaints were redressed while the rest are in different stages of settlement. In DK of the 1643 cases registered, 974 have been settled. The SHRC Chairman was speaking after holding a meeting with senior officials including DC Channappa Gowda, IGP Pratap Reddy on Friday, July 20. He expressed his anguish over the failure of the government to appoint a successor to him until now and added two more members of the Commission were also scheduled to retire soon.
He said the government until now has not conceded to the Commission’s demands for better facilities and added in the event of the government fulfilling the demands, the Commission could have functioned much better.
