Mangalore: A state level Jatha (active procession) with a programme organised from Hubli and North Karnataka borders reached Mangalore in a vehicle to assemble at the DCO gates at 5pm on Thursday. The programme was inaugurated by Mandd Sobhan Gurkar (chief) Eric Ozario by beating a drum at the venue.
The Jatha was on a tour of the state, with a street play, on Corruption and price rise menace that harmed common people everywhere.
Ozario stated that corruption had taken different forms like a devil, and its branches had spreaded all over the state. It had to be uprooted form the state once for all, to restore peace and order.
Eric further stated that “Samudaya” an NGO has taken bold step to attack corruption through arts and street-plays on tour.
Tulu writer Vijayakumar Kodialbail in his speech said the politicians owned newspapers and TV channel to further their nefarious corrupt and selfish activities in the name of social/national/political service, and they could not be controlled by press persons when it (Press) is their handmaid. But organisations like ‘Samudaya’ can create public awareness through street-plays against corruption in its various forms and also rise in essential commodities of daily life.
T Surendra Rao organised the show. Laxmi Narayana Rao led the artists’ squad in Jatha. The street play along with cartoon sand wall posters were on display at the programme organised by Samudaya, with folk songs and speeches from artists.
