Mangalore : Jayaram Shetty, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore Inaugurated the state under 17 boys and girls chess championship- 2010 at Bharatiya Vidya bhavan Mangalore today,
Inaugurating the event Mr.Shetty said “SKDCA is providing good platform to players of the district and the state by conducting series of chess tournaments. Players of the district are fortunate to have this great association. Vidya bhavan is going to support in all possible ways to the activities of SKDCA”, he added.
In his welcome address SKDCA president Mr.M.S.Gururaj said “SKDCA is re-dedicating itself to promote and popularize this game of intelligence by providing tournament exposure and high level of coaching”.
Mr.Hanumantha, Secretary of UKCA and Shivananda B. S, National coach and player inaugurated the “Mangalore Chess Academy” by moving the pawn in the demonstration board. Mr. Raghavendra.V,director of M.C.A explained the style of functioning and coaching of the academy. Mr.Hanumatha spoke on the occasion Mr. Kaushik gave the details of Bi-monthly dist tournament, Mr. John pais proposed the vote of thanks.
Total numbers of boy’s participants 44, 21 were FIDE Rated players. Stany G A of Shimoga Former State Champion with 2331 Elo rating top seed of the tournament,
Niranjan Navalgund of Belgaum former sub junior champion with 2240 ELO rating second seed of the tournament. For boy’s total number of rounds will be Seven. 2rounds on 12th, 3rounds on 13th and 2 rounds on 14th .Prize distribution will be at 4pm.
Total Number of Girls participants 15 among them 9were FIDE rated players Shristi J Shetty of Shimoga, former commonwealth Silver medalist top seed, total number of rounds for girls will be five.
