Mangalore : Karnataka State U-17 Boys and Girls Chess Championship 2010, organized by South Kanara District Chess Association concluded today at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore. Top two players from each Category will represent Karnataka in the forthcoming U-17 National Boys and Girls Chess Championship to be held from 3/11/2010 to 11/11/2010 at Jammu, Stany and Niranjan Scored 6.5 points, on tie break Stany Secured championship. Andria scored full 5pionts and secured first place comfortably in the girls group.
Prof.G.R Rai Joint Secretary Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Sri Jayaram Shetty, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and SKDCA president Mr.M.S.Gururaj, gave away the prizes to the winners.
At seventh round
On top board Stany G.A. of Shimoga played with white pieces against Pangal Gopalkrishna of Mangalore. Gopal with black pieces opted Sicillian najdorf defence. Without castling Gopal advanced his king side pawn on 22nd move Stany became pawn up and won the game easily.
On the second board Niranjan of Belgaum with white pieces opted Fianchetto System against Varma Shabdhik of Mangalore (Dharmastala).0n 14th move made a mistake moving rook to d8 square on 22nd move Shabdik blundered a pawn. Thus Shabdik accepted defeat at the end of 55th move.
