Mangaluru : The Karnataka State Women’s Commission will mediate between actor Darshan and his wife Vijaylakshmi, who has filed a complaint against her husband with the police.
Taking to reporters here on Thursday, commission’s chairperson Manjula Manasa said that the commission has taken cognisance of media reports accusing Darshan of assaulting the security guard of the complex where his wife is living along with her son in Bengaluru.
The commission has suo motu registered a complaint against Darshan on the charge of harassing his wife. Ms. Manjula Manasa said that initially Darshan and his wife had not answered calls made by her. Around 1 p.m., Darshan’s wife called and sought three days to give her statement about the incident that occurred on Wednesday.
“She said that she was not in the right frame of mind now. She does not want to speak about her family affairs in the media too. She has said that she would go before the commission after three days,” Ms. Manjula Manasa said.
Ms. Manjula Manasa said that Darshan had also called her and said that he will give his side of the story after the statement by his wife.
Ms. Manjula Manasa said that the commission will mediate and counsel the couple.
“We will try to resolve the dispute between the two and make them live together. If they do not want to stay together, we will facilitate divorce proceedings,” she said.
Defending the commission’s decision to suo motu register a complaint against the actor, Ms. Manjula Manasa said that the commission has not done this just because the issue was related to high profile individuals.
“We have taken cognisance of several such cases. We are intervening here as it involved the alleged harassment of a woman,” she said.
