Mangalore : Higher Education Minister C T Ravi on Wednesday, assured that the government will provide all facilities to the rural public under ‘Namma Grama, Namma Rasthe’ scheme which intends to make them self-sufficient.
Initiatives will be taken to stop the migration of youth from the villages to cities in search of jobs. Confidence will be restored in the youth to take up agriculture, by providing basic facilities to rural areas, he said.
He was speaking after laying foundation stone for the liquid waste management unit at Ujire on Wednesday.
The Minister said that the multi-village water supply scheme will be implemented in Neriya and Laila and permanent drinking water project will be introduced to supply drinking water to Ujire.
Ujire Gram Panchayat which is the largest GP in Belthangady taluk will be upgraded as town panchayat, he announced.
MLA K Vasanth Bangera inaugurated various developmental works and Zilla Panchayat President Koragappa Naik inaugurated the drinking water project.
Defends govt move
Defending the government’s move to give permission to start private varsities in the State, Higher Education Minister C T Ravi said that the government has taken the decision in order to provide quality education and for the welfare of the students.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme on Wednesday, he said that the allegations made by the Congress and the JD(S) are baseless.
Flaying the opposition parties for making baseless allegations against the BJP, he said it is not right on the part of those parties to make allegations against the party outside the Assembly, rather than discussing the issues in the Assembly in a constitutional way.
On giving permission to start new private varsities in the State, he saidthough permission has been given to the private universities, they have not been given the complete autonomy in the seat distribution. About 40 per cent of the seats will be in the hands of the government which will be filled by selecting eligible candidates from Karnataka.
Fixing the fee too will be monitored by the committee appointed by the State government. Any misappropriation will lead to two years of imprisonment and imposing a penalty of Rs 10 lakh, he said. -DH News
