Uppinangady : The Uppinangady police are suspecting involvement of a local person in the theft of ornaments and cash from Laxmi Venkataramana temple on June 5. Part of the stolen silver articles were discovered in an agriculture field in Nattiebail near Uppinangady on Tuesday.
According to Uppinangady police, silver articles worth Rs. 6.5 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh in cash was stolen from the temple. On June 16, workers on the plantation of Krishna Nayak Nattiebial discovered a plastic bag containing th silver articles. This plastic bag was found while clearing grass growing by the side of water passage-way in the field.
The police was informed, and they, on investigation found the silver articles — weighing 6.800 grams — to be those stolen from the temple. The police said the way the stolen articles had been hidden gives suspicion of involvement of local persons in the theft.
