Chikkamagaluru: MLA C T Ravi said that not even a drop of water should be released to the Hemavathi dam from Yagachi dam.
In the aftermath of the spread of rumours that the water is being released from Yagachi dam to Hemavathi dam, the legislator and other BJP leaders visited the Yagachi dam on Saturday and gathered information from the officials.
Speaking to mediapersons, Ravi said, the Yagachi dam was constructed 13 years ago and, for the first time, very little water has collected in the dam.
At present, there is 1.5 tmc feet water, out of which, only 1.2 tmc feet water is fit for use. The dam provides water to Belur and Arsikere, apart from the district.
“Now, water is being supplied in town once in two days. Water from Yagachi, Hemavathi, Kabini and Harangi dams will reach River Cauvery. There are speculations over the release of water from the Yagachi dam to the Hemavathi dam, which has created fear among the people,” warned the legislator.
BJP city unit president C S Ranganath Kote, City Municipal Council president M R Devraj Shetty, Municipal Council member K S Pushparaj, leader C R Premkumar, Taluk Panchayat president Ishwarahalli Mahesh and BJP Belur taluk unit president Koratikere Prakash were present among others.
