Mangalore : Mayor Praveen indicated in a monthly review meeting on Tuesday that the ‘Tiger’(catch goats) Van operations will commence on Sept.2, whereas the roadside vendors(goats) were provided with alternate space to carry out heir harmless business near the Service bus stand, and at a vacant space near Lady Goschen Hospital.
He added that the tempo stand(vacant space) can easily accommodate 90 vendors. This arrangement was done on compassionate grounds, the Mayor informed.
However the vendors are banned around Lady Goschen Hospital and SBI areas. No vendor can occupy a footpath, or encroach on it, to sell his/her wares/materials, Praveen categorically stated.
Corporators had pointed out that hundreds of houses had been constructed on government land in MCC limits so the council unanimously resolved to issue a door number to them under Section 122(C) temporarily, as the houses belonged to the poor. Without door numbers, the poor who live there, will not get urban facilities from the government. The Mayor agreed to send a letter to the govt. on the resolution passed by the council for its approval.
Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde remarked that in 1998, some such houses had been given temporary door numbers, taking Govt. permission.
Corporator Mariamma Thomas complained of the deplorable state of the certain interior lanes /roads/streets in MCC limits. James D’Souza supported her and said that Corporators got the work done by bad contractors. Asphalted roads did not last long in rainy flows, an engineer stated.
On stray dogs menace, raised by Corporator Harinath, the Health officer called for sterilization methods to control these dogs. Commissioner K.N.Vijayprakash and Deputy Mayor were present.
