Mangalore: The street vendors along with elected members and representatives of 25 organizations formed a human chain from the State Bank bus stand to Lady Goshen Hospital, to protest against the Mangalore City Corporation’s (MCC) Civic Tiger campaign on July 7, Thursday.
District president of the Congress B Ramanath Rai, said that the MCC was always been against the poor after BJP party came into power. He said that street vendors carry on their business throughout India, but BJP is unnecessarily targeting them.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, the convener of the Beedibadi Vyaparigala Horata Samithi, said that the committee has been protesting over the issue from past two months and will continue further till get justice.
Criticizing District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, he said that the minister has not responded to the street vendor’s long protest, hence the street vendors will protest in front of the minister’s residence.
B. Madhava, an activist of CPI (M), M. G. Hegde, the JD(S) leader; Corporators Lancelot Pinto and Shashidhar Hegde; Shashiraj Shetty; former mayor Ashraf, and many others participated in the protest.
