Mangalore, August 10: The street vendor under the aegis of CITU staged protest in front of Traffic West Police Station, Bundar against police atrocities against women on August 10, Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, CPIM secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said that the street vendors are working for their livelihood and it is their right and not for time pass.
The street vendors have even requested the Mangalore City Corporation not to continue the civic tiger operation for a month since the street vendors have their fasting for Ramzan, but the Traffic Sub Inspector Gopal Krishna Bhat have pulled the weighing scale from a lady street vendor named Shobha and beat up, this is not acceptable, he added.
Police department is a part of government and it is known that they don’t support the poor but such attacks must not take place. The police department is increasing their atrocities on the poor people, he said.
CITU general secretary Vasanth Achary said that SI Gopal Krishna Bhat had good name earlier but the people have come to know about his service. The police have also attacked the street vendors near Lady Goshen recently and it is not acceptable. We will fight for justice at the higher level.
Speaking on the occasion SI Gopal Krishna Bhat said that they had just taken the weighing scale and not beaten.
