Mangaluru: The police are searching for student from West Bengal, who had arrived to Mangaluru along with his father to get admitted to a college in Manipal and mysteriously went missing near Kulur in the city on Friday, July 27th. The missing student has been identified as Abhijith Dey, son of Devkumar Dey, who is here with his family, in the city attempting to locate Abhijith along with the police.
On July 27th, Abhijith Dey had arrived to Mangaluru by flight along with his father. They were en route to Manipal in a taxi from Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) when they stopped the taxi at Kulur for tea. After having tea, Devkumar Dey paid the bill and on coming out of the hotel found that his son had vanished without a trace.
Immediately after failing to locate Abhijith, the distressed father called his son on his mobile phone and found out that his cell phone was switched off. Requesting help from some locals he tried to locate his son in vain and ultimately, filed a missing person complaint with Kavoor police station.
In his complaint, Devkumar Dey states that Abhijith had received a call when en route towards Kulur, post which his son appeared to be frightened. There is a suspicion that Abhijith may have been escorted by someone. The father also mentions that Abhijith used to play online games frequently.
Further in the complaint, the father informed the police that his son had insisted on getting admitted to Manipal Engineering College and therefore he had accompanied Abhijith. However, admission for Manipal Engineering College has already been closed and hence it is suspected that Abhijith may have lied to his father to reach here.
Though the police have searched intensely for Abhijith since the past three days, so far they have not located him. However, the police have noticed that Abhijith’s laptop is connected to online through internet , thus giving rise to the possibility that the missing person might be taking shelter at a railway station, bus stand or malls where free WiFi service is available. Hence, the police along with searching for the missing person at other places have given extra importance to these places also.
