Mangaluru : Beary community literature would have been much richer today if the literature of the Beary community had been composed in their native language, Badriya College former principal Dr. N. Ismail commented.
Delivering a special lecture at the ‘Beary Sahitya: Nele-Bele’ program organised by Beary Study Chair at Shivarama Karantha Sabhabhavana of University College Mangaluru on Tuesday, he said, Beary language has a history of over 1400 years. Students should be interested in contributing to the Beary literature which is mixed with Tulu culture, he added.
Meanwhile, Janab Harris Mohammed Ichlangodu, an engineer by profession, contributed more than a hundred books to the Beary Study Chair in memory of his father late Prof. B M Ichlangodu. He was felicitated by the Beary Study Chair. University College Mangaluru Principal (in-charge) Dr. Harish, Beary Study Chair Advisory Committee members Abdul Rehman Kuttettur, Samshuddin Madikeri, Ahmad Bawa Moideen, Badriya First Grade College Principal Prof. Rehmat Ali were present.
Beary Study Chair Coordinator Dr. A Siddique delivered introductory speech. Advisory Committee Member Ibrahim Kodichal presented the vote of thanks. Economics Lecturer Shama INM mastered the ceremony.
