Mangalore: A memorandum for protection of people living in Maripalla and Faisalnagar from goondas and rowdies moving about there was delivered to City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh today, signed by about 300 muslim citizens, seeking police help.
The signatories are from Kallakatte village near Bajal in city. A gang of anti-social Muslim elements (about ten of them) had been harassing the common people by making attacks on them, or staring at them as if they were offenders at large. The gang has been threatening women and children with long knives and death for no particular reason.
These youngsters are drug addicts who try to sell intoxicants to rural youths, and beat them up if they did not provide monetary assistance to the gang led by one Jabbar, who misuses the local youths to become drug addicts, and commit crimes. But the rural people have been living in peace for long, before the gang made its presence felt here.
Several criminal cases have been registered against this gang of about 10 culprits, for gang war and communal instigations, disturbing public life.
The local citizens feel unsafe and unhappy in view of the Muslim youths’ gang. Mohd. Hanif, a local worker going to the Central Market for his coolie work, was attacked on Tuesday and has been hospitalised in view of murder attempts by the gang.
The people warned the police that if they did not intervene to check the rowdies, regular murder and riots could take place in future. They demanded the arrest of the gang leader and his cronies who create trouble in Muslim localities around Bajal.
