Sullia : Sullia police have arrested a youth for stabbing a woman Congress leader and her husband Gandhinagar in Sullia on April 30, Wednesday.

The injured couple is identified as Congress leader Waheeda Ismail and her husband Ismail Nelyamajal, who were stabbed by a youth named Siddique, hailing from Bellare, over the previous enmity of land dispute.

It is learnt that, Siddique and Ismail were close friends had turned enemies over land dispute. Siddique who saw Waheeda, getting down from the car near the Sullia Minorities Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society to hand over her photo, attacked her and later attacked Ismail, who was sitting in a nearby shop. The locals, who saw the attack, caught hold of Siddique and handed over to the police.

The couple was rushed to KVG Hospital and Waheeda had to undergo a surgery for her injuries in the chest and later shifted to a hospital in Mangalore.
