Mangalore: Apart from the forced transfer of ACDP Amit Singh in Puttur last week, presently Sub-Inspector of Konaje police station, Sunil Patil has been abruptly shifted from his place on account of Sand Mafia’s pressure, as he was crossing in their path like a ferocious tiger, against their corrupt activities depletion of sand largely used for buildings in DK and Kasaragod districts.
The mafia includes builders and politicians doing business in the coastal region with ministerial blessings.
Sensing the surrender of the local Govt. authorities from minister in charge of DK down to MCC officials and ZP representatives, who have allowed the loot of the fine quality of sand near the sea and riversides, common people at large gathered near Konaje police station to stage an impromptu protest against corrupt officials of the state and local panchayats and MCC, on Monday.
Where as the police are accused often of their highhandedness, political influences are likely to cause the political discomfiture and unhappiness, when a police officer like Amit Singh or Sunil Patil go according to rules to prevent corruption.
Sunil Patil had come in for praise by common citizens within a few weeks of his coming to Konaje by his work efficiency and the admirers would not want him to go away so soon. Patil acted against all possible legal offenders, be they autorickshaw drivers, or policemen or influential persons or ruffians.
The sand mafia even had gone to the extent of planning to attack the earlier DC (Ponnuraj for restricting their activities. Patil became the headache in a lot of sand mafia members who wanted him removed from Konaje.
If Amit Singh and Sunil Patil have been shifted out, the DK in charge Minister cannot pretend ignorance in the matter, even as an ex-builder.
In the protest rally held on Monday at Konaje, people surrounded and slammed the police station demanding restoration of office to Sunil Patil. Earlier certain outfits and party leaders had conducted protest against Patil’s transfer. But on Monday, over 500 leaderless persons gathered and held their protest rally to re-install Sunil Patil as SI in Konaje.
