Mangaluru: In the wake of assembly elections, DK district administration held an inter-state coordination meeting with neighbouring Kasargod district administration on Wednesday.
Kasargod District Collector Jeevan Babu attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, DK DC Sasikanth Senthil said that there is a need to keep an eye on the transportation of cash and goods on the border areas. The officials from both the states should work in coordination. Measures should be taken to ensure that no proxy vote takes place in the bordering areas of the district.
Further, he said that officials should be cautious on the illegal transportation of sand, cattle, and hawala money.
Dakshina Kannada SP Ravikanthe Gowda said that nine checkposts have been opened on the borders of Kerala, in Dakshina Kannada. More emphasis will be given for the security, as there are chances of movement of Maoists in the border areas.
Kasargod District Collector Jeevan Babu said that the officials should exchange information. The officials from the police, RTO, commercial tax and forest will be directed to coordinate with the Dakshina Kannada officials. There is a need to vigil in the shore as well.
DK DC Sasikanth Senthil has directed to keep an eye on bank transactions in the district, ahead of assembly elections.
Speaking during a meeting held in the presence of expenditure observers, he said all the banks should furnish details on all major transactions that take place in the branches of the banks on a daily basis. The bank staff should not show lethargic attitude in this. Action will be initiated against those banks that fail to furnish details.
The officials should also keep a tab on cooperative banks and hawala transactions. The commercial tax should verify the transportation of goods properly. A team of officials from income tax, customs, banks and police personnel will be constituted to keep a tab on business transactions ahead of elections.
Expenditure observers S Anil Kumar, Vinod Sharma, Shyam Manohar Singh, Amith Kumar Singhal verified the preparations for the elections.
BEO office education convener Krishna A has filed a complaint to Karkala Town Police that during the BJP Mahila Morcha convention on April 8, the participants were served with eatables, which amounts to luring the voters and is a violation of the model code of conduct. A case has been registered in Karkala police station.
To urge voters to participate in exercising their franchise, the district administration and District SVEEP committee has organised a rangoli competition on April 29. The competitions will be held in front of Big Bazaar in Udupi from 7 am. Rangoli can be drawn using dots, flowers, millets, and powder. Such rangolis should spread the message of exercising franchise.
The winners will get Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, respectively. In addition, 10 consolation prize of Rs 1,000 each will be given, said ZP CEO Shivananda Kapashi.
Increase poll percentage : Udupi ZP CEO Shivananda Kapashi said that officials have been appointed to look into the reason for poor turn out in a few areas in Udupi during the last assembly election.
He said that he will also visit a few places to ascertain the reasons for poor turnout.
