Manipal: The 150th birth anniversary of Nobel-prize winning Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore was observed, by celebrating literature, music and other arts connected with Tagore, at the Manipal school this week, with a tableaux on Tagore’s contributions to the freedom struggle, his establishing of Shanthi Niketan College, and composing National song “Jana Gana Mana” and his paintings.
Competitions for students were held on Friday on various aspects connected with poet Tagore who had met Mahatma Gandhi and many other national leaders during the battle with British Raj.
Poems, stories, novels, paintings, music created by Tagore were discussed. A contest in creating wealth out of waste materials was arranged on Saturday for children below 15, besides drawing sketches in waste. A dance ballet based on Tagore was exhibited. Students recited Tagore poetry and stories like the famed Cabuliwalla in Calcutta, in a great event.
