Udupi : Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said teachers played a major role in inculcating social and ethical values among students.
Speaking after inaugurating Teachers Day celebrations, organised by district administration, the minister said that teachers also had the responsibility of framing the future of the students and make them better and civilised human beings.
He added that teachers were not confined to schools, instead, they were teachers for the entire society.
Sorake added that primary and high school learning was very crucial in the lives of every man. Hence, teachers who mould the students during this period should ensure that they (student) have imbibed moral and ethical values.
He said that social values can be learnt only through education. The minister said that teaching should not end up as an one-way communication. It should be an interactive process for fruitful outcome.
Asserting that former President late Dr S Radhakrishnan was a bonafide ambassador of the nation, Sorake said that he had taught the history of Emperor Ashoka to communist leader Stalin, who in turn had acknowledged the humbleness of the former president by stating that he was the only person who treated him as a human being. The former president had the ability to infuse better qualities and change the attitudes of human beings towards good.
The minister added that Udupi district was known for quality education. It is the district which has successfully introduced Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rastriya Madhyamika Abhiyan, he added.
The teachers who were selected for Best Teacher District Awards for 2015 and Sadhaka Sikshaka Awards – 2015 were honoured on the occasion.
