Udupi : Temples have played a very important role in protecting Hinduism since ages from various types of onslaught and have preserved the age old customs and traditions, said Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt.
He was speaking after inaugurating a convention of members of the management committees of temples notified in the district. The meet was held under the aegis of the District Religious and Endowment Department at Town Hall on February 9, Saturday.
Continuing, the Pejawar seer said temples should have good administration in order to see development. He also urged temples to give importance to social activities along with religious works.
“To uphold Hinduism the least we can to do is to provide religious education and basic knowledge of Bhajans to all,” the swamiji said.
District Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said temple managements should hold meetings regularly. He said so far during his tenure he has released Rs 19.8 lakh for 480 temples. Raghupathi Bhat, Udupi MLA, presided over the function. Upendra Nayak, Udupi ZP Chief, Kiran Kumar, Udupi CMC President, Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, Coastal Development Authority President and others were present.
