Padubidri : A total of ten pairs entered the nuptial knot at the mass marriage ceremony held at Sri Mahalakshmi Samaja Bhavan of Uchila Sri Mahalakshmi Temple on May 30, Wednesday The programme was held under the join auspices of the G Shanker Family Trust and Udupi District Mogaveera Youth Organization.
This is the fourth year the mass marriage ceremony is held and until now a total of 105 pairs have entered into wedlock.
Speaking on the occasion, G Shanker Family Trust founder Dr G Shanker said such mass marriages would be held throughout the state for the benefit of the community members from next year. He also said free mass wedding for 101 couples will be held at the Shyamili hall of Udupi next April.
Jaya C Kotian, President of the Udupi District Mogaveera Youth Organization, Lalaji R Mendon, Kaup MLA, UR Sabhapathi, former MLA, Shalini Shanker, Keshav Kunder, President of the DK District Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, and several others leaders of the community were present on the occasion.
The groom was offered Kurta Paijama, peta, and the bride, saree, silver toe ring and mangalasutra chain weighing two sovereigns. Hundred relatives each from both sides were allowed to participate.
A sum of Rs 85000 spent towards each pair was contributed by G Shanker Family Trust and Mogaveera Youth Organization..
