Mangalore : Tension gripped a communal sensitive area Ullal ahead of the Assembly elections after a minor accident led to communal clash and vandalism on April 21, Sunday evening. A bus bundh call has also been given on April 22, Monday.
A woman named Khatheejamma (42) suffered minor injuries in the incident. The clash erupted after locals waylaid a rashly driven Indica car. However the driver Ganesh of Mastikatte defended his driving and abused a woman.
This enraged a local group which thrashed the driver resulting in a clash between two groups. In another development, one Habeeb (27), a resident of Mukkacheri was also thrashed brutally.
Miscreants also resorted to stone pelting and two buses including a route no 44 bus was stoned. People even gathered in front of the local police station in large numbers and began to raise slogans forcing the police to resort to a lathi charge wherein some people were injured. Two persons namely Mustafa and Haneef, residents of Belma have been taken into custody. Security has been stepped up in the area and BSF personnel have been deployed.
