Udupi : Bengre Paduthonse in Malpe faced trouble when members of Hindu organizations allegedly stoned houses of people belonging to minority community on March 20 Wednesday morning, consequent upon previous day’s incident wherein they had informed the police regarding the presence of a cattle in the house of one BK Javed at Bengre.
The Hindu associations had suspected that the cattle was kept in the house for the sake of slaughter. When the police arrived, Javed failed to give a satisfactory reply and the cattle was then taken the Neelavara Goshala.
As new spread, the next morning, several people from both communities gathered in the area. Some even pelted stones on the house of members of Muslim community and in the stone pelting the glass of the TV stand in Javed’s house was damaged. Police had to resort to a lathi charge to quell the mob.
Security in the area has been stepped up to prevent any untoward incident.
Senior police officials are also camping at the place. The situation is said to be peaceful.
In a latest development, the Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkuta has strongly condemned the incident.
