Mangalore : Pingara to confer 10th ‘Pingara Rajyotsava Award 2014’ on ‘Manasa Rehabilitation Centre’ a Catholic Sabha Mangalore-Udupi Pradesh(R) project based in Pambur, Shankakpura in Udupi district.
Speaking at the press meet at Hotel Woodlands on October 28, Tuesday Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino said that the Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore will present the award at a ceremony to be held at Don Bosco Hall on November 11, Tuesday.
Valenica parish priest Fr James D’Souza will inaugurate the programme. Al Haj Thwaqa Ahmed Moulavi Kaziyatakam will be the chief guest.
Minister Abhaychandra Jain, MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza and Dr M Mohan Alva will be present for the programme.
Roy said that, Manasa Rehabilitation Centre functioning jointly by Udupi and Mangalore Catholic Sabha, is treating differently abled children and training them to become excel in the field of tailors, mechanics photo, studios and printing press.
The student from this centre has shown their talent in Olympics and won gold, silver and bronze in 2007 and 2013 Olympics. The centre has trained around 160 students so far.
He also said that along with the education the children are are learning to make candles, books, greetings, plastic bags, decorative stuffs.
Roy also said that the panel had to chosen Manasa Rehabilitation Centre from the 28 applications received since they deserve the award.
Harikrishna Punaroor (joint president), Fr William Menezes (co-ordinator), Rohan Monteiro, Dr B G Suvarna, Eliyas Fernandes, C G Pinto, Srikar Prabhu and Ramakrishna R were the members of selection commitee.
Harikrishna Punaroor gave a floral welcome to Catholic Sabha Udupi president Elroy Kiran Crasta and Mangalore president Flavy D’Souza.
Pingara editor-in-chief Raymond D’Cunha, welcomed the guests and said that the Pingara Rajyotsava Award will not comprise of cash prizes but the organization will promote the Manasa Rehabilitation Centre for one year and help them to get donors.
