Mangalore : The city police commissionerate and the Dakshina Kannada district police, observed Police Martyrs Day at the Armed Reserve Police office grounds on Wednesday October 21.to pay tribute to the Mangalore Policemen who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Superintendent of police (SP) Dr Sharanappa S D Welcomed the guests and said, The day is observed to remember the sacrifices of the men in khaki when the ten policemen were killed and nine captured by the Chinese troops in Ladakh in 1959.
Inspector general of police (western range) Amrit Paul paid tribute to PSI Jagadish from Doddaballapur, who recently died by a criminal. He also said to the government to increase the compensation to Rs 20 lakh to 25 lakh to death of police men who dies on duty.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said, The Police have more responsibility to safeguard the society and the country. We must remember the police personnel who have sacrificed their lives for socity.”
Police Commissioner S Murugan, former MLA N Yogish Bhat, city crime branch (CCB) police inspector Valentine D’Souza were present.
The police flag was lowered and a silent prayer was offered.A floral tribute was paid to the police personnel who lost their lives over the past year in different parts of the country.
