Bangalore: Within a month of testing the goods at the Dharmasthala temple, were he failed to make his true statement on oath as promised, CM Yeddyurappa has stopped down as CM of Karnataka on Sunday afternoon, under heavy pressure from the BJP High Command (L.K. Advani, Arun Jaitly, Dharmendra Padhan and others),and in fear of summary expulsion from the party after 5pm on july31,if he did not bow to public demand)for his removal.
Yeddy made the senior leaders dance to his tunes for a week, inserting several conditions for his exit, by naming possible successors like DVS Gowda, and asking to be made BJP state unit head, himself.
None of his conditions were accepted and he was asked to put in his papers, quite “unconditionally”, and he had to do so finally, unless he asked for expulsion.
He even thought of and announced about forming a new party, ‘Kannada Janatha Paksha’ (KJP) with 70 MLAs supporting him! They should ‘V’ signs in front of his Race Course Road residence on Sunday.
Yeddy had denied all charges made by the Lokayukta against him,and 30 years in building BJP. None of these arguments gave any credibility to his perverse character and political conduct in a high post. He appeared to be a crooked and corrupt leader, despite his lavish donations to temples, monasteries and individuals or service institutions etc.
The High Command has eventually failed to appoint a new leader as CM, as on Monday(Aug.1),or when the Parliament assembles in Delhi for its Monsoon session, with UPA facing several grim charges of corruption in many cases under debate.
The BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, helped by CM Yeddyurappa to the extent of crores of rupees, in the green room played safe and protected him, till the CM became a liability, like A. Raja or Suresh Kalmady(both in Tihar jail)to UPA in July.
Nitin could not hold him back in protective clothes, and made Yeddyurappa, a martyr to BJP’s cause, to fight cases of corruption against Congress in Delhi, in August.
Yeddyurappa is highly ambitious and dangerous to the party that catered to him.Even the opposition did not allow him to told his state Assembly sessions in peace, and he had to cry foul of them many times for criticizing him. Now he is a former CM of Karnataka state for all.
