Udupi: As informed on Monday, the Yeshwantpur(Bangalore)-Arsikere-Mangalore Junction express train covering Malenad scenes and holy places like Subrahmanya on way, turned to Karwar on its onward journey, via Suratkal and Indrali railway station.
The first such train extended to Karwar from Mangalore(Kankanady), leaving out Mangalore City Central station on way, reached Udupi at 7-20PM sharp to a tumultuous Welcome by BJP members and traveling public.
ZP chief K.S. Poojary and Railway Travellers Association officials were present. All parties were brought together on a dais, arranged by RTA chief R.L. Dias. The speakers expressed happiness and sought the night train from Bangalore also to make stops in Udupi and north Kanara stations.
The train had 15 compartments with 6 reservation bogies, for 648 seats of which 495 were filled up. 30 persons from Mangalore traveled to Karwar on this first ever extension.
100 seats were reserved at Udupi on Monday for Bangalore. BJP leaders shouted Victory slogans. Congress leaders also Welcomed the train as due to their own efforts. JD-S claimed that it had also taken part in the struggle for a Connected Coastal region by rail, to Bangalore
