Bangalore : The State’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra on Thursday said that the State government was considering introducing a tax on weddings in which the expenses are more than Rs five lakh and the number of guests are exceeding 1000.

The plan is to use funds collected through these taxes to sponsor mass weddings for poorer sections of the society in the state, he claimed.

“We are considering the modalities for introducing the tax. It will be introduced only after it is discussed thoroughly on the floor of the legislature,” the law minister said.
