Udupi: A whole fortnight has gone by when earnest Hindus honouring their ancestors have been offering Tila Tarpana ablutions to dead parents and ancestors, also other relatives, since 2 weeks now. Today is the final day of remembering those dead ancestors who created and followed certain Hindu traditions of worship and respect for bygone elders by the living generations. The Tarpana is supposed to give peace and salvation to the tormented ancestral souls on their spiritual journey in the other worlds.
People visit beaches today and offer ablutions to ancestors standing knee-deep in sea waves on a beach no auspicious work has been done or begun in the last 15 days, from Oct 8, Navaratri festivals start, declaring auspicious days ahead when gates of death are closed and evil is banished from earth altogether.
