Suratkal: Five of the six proposed fly-overs have become operational, with Kulur fly-over opened to traffic a month ago and now, the Suratkal fly-over, after prolonged delays, finally thrown open to public vehicles.
The inordinate delays in building these have forced people to go through an ordeal, not of their making and not meant for walkers.
The most important flyover at Nanthoor was shelved, and the one at Bikarnakatte is still incomplete, forcing city-buses to struggle to move under it to change path towards Gurpur or Shaktinagar.
The court cases pertaining to widening of roads had halted the work in several places. The only remaining flyover at Maroli, is being completed in a hurry to be ready before monsoon(June 2012).
With al six flyovers ready, the busy routes of NH 13, 17 and 48, will ease slowly and Mangalore citizens will have few nightmares on roads, as traffic will be divided on these routes.
Two more court cases in Maroli are pending, but National Highway Authority officials are going ahead with the work on acquired lands.
Thus Kottara Chowky, Kuntikana, Suratkal, Kulur and Maroli are having their flyovers, to reduce tensions and traffic Congestions.
The work at the Nanthoor Junction will be over in March 2012.
